As you may know, the first round of chickens (the meat chickens) were butchered memorial day weekend as well. Both sets of parents and Sarah's sister's family came for the day to help. We had 29 chickens to butcher and took about 7 hours. It was definitely a long day...but in the end we now have lots of yummy chicken in the freezer! They were big chickens too - many of the whole chickens weighing between 5 and 6 pounds (after the feathers and insides were removed)! We had one of the fresh chickens on the charcoal grill on Sunday, and everyone wants to know if it was the best chicken we'd ever had. It was definitely good...but I guess in the end, it pretty much "tasted like chicken!" Here are photos of the event.
Yum! We do full chicken a lot in the oven with the beer butt, it keeps it very moist and it's delicious!! 350 degrees/22 minutes a pound works perfect! We'll have to try it on the grill now too that it's nice out!
