After the rain came on Friday evening, we had not only one full rainbow, but two of them - both visable from one end to the other! We couldn't get a picture that showed the whole thing in one shot, and the 2nd rainbow is pretty faint in the pictures - but you can see it to the left of the brighter rainbow in the first 2 pictures. The pictures certainly don't do it justice...but we had to try to capture the moment anyway!
The color variations in the pictures are a result of us using different settings on the camera.

There's nothing cuter than kittens (except Berkley of course)!
We are happy to report that our spring litter of kittens has amounted to only 2 cute little kitties, and they are becoming friendlier by the day! Today I walked outside and the little black one was sitting on the front steps. I bent down to pet him and he not only purred softly, but then rolled to his back looking for a good tummy rub. I think it definitely helped having Chip & Jeanette's kids here last weekend - the kittens never got a break from the cuddling! They'll be ready for a home before we know it...now we just need to find people to take them (hint, hint)! I also took a few photos of some of the kittens down at Ben's parent's farm down the road. They weren't so lucky and have at least 6 kittens at this point! The pictures of the 3 little orange ones are theirs, and if you look closely you'll see a black one in the first picture too!

5 Month Birthday
Berkley turned 5 months old yesterday (6/10), and she's getting to be such a big girl! She's rolling over on a somewhat regular basis (both directions), doing a lot of babbling, sucking her thumb, and seeming to enjoy the other kids at daycare! We've also added oatmeal cereal to her dinnertime menu, and sometime in the next couple of weeks we'll probably start her on eating cereal twice a day. Here she is wearing some of her 6 month jeans...that are pretty much too small for her already! She'll likely be in 6-9 month pants very soon :)
Canal Days Parade & Melissa's Graduation
Berkley went to her first parade last weekend, for Portage's Canal Days weekend. Obviously she's a little young to really appreciate it, but it was still fun to take her!
We also went to Ben's cousin and goddaughter Melissa's high school graduation party later that day. We got one picture of Berkley with Megan, but never took anymore throughout the day. Oops!

The egg layers & the butchering weekend
A few pictures of our egg layers...getting big! It won't be long and they'll need to be in the bigger coop, and potentially running around the yard!
As you may know, the first round of chickens (the meat chickens) were butchered memorial day weekend as well. Both sets of parents and Sarah's sister's family came for the day to help. We had 29 chickens to butcher and took about 7 hours. It was definitely a long day...but in the end we now have lots of yummy chicken in the freezer! They were big chickens too - many of the whole chickens weighing between 5 and 6 pounds (after the feathers and insides were removed)! We had one of the fresh chickens on the charcoal grill on Sunday, and everyone wants to know if it was the best chicken we'd ever had. It was definitely good...but I guess in the end, it pretty much "tasted like chicken!" Here are photos of the event.

Let's go fishing!
She just can't wait to get out fishing!! Berkley played with her "First Tackle Box" today for the first time and had lots of fun - she's already trying to eat her fresh catch! The last item is a video. As you may have figured out, you can't see videos in the email announcements you receive, but you should be able to see it on the actual blog homepage, if not click here.

Outside fun...
It was beautiful outside later in the day today, so we spent a little time hanging out in the shade. We picked 2 more quarts of strawberries tonight, and discovered a new kitten running around! We're holding steady at only 2, but who knows how many more might be hiding yet. Berkley LOVES watching the animals lately, she just can't get enough of Boone and the cats. You really get a sense of Berkley's cute round cheeks in the 2nd picture!

Springtime!
What beautiful weather we're having! Today I picked all sorts of strawberries from our patch and cut my 2nd batch of peonies for the house. Ben also picked some daisies from the yard the other day...all perfect signs of spring!
Rice Cereal!
Berkley had her first solid food on Friday, May 28! She did really pretty good, and continues to get better each time! She's now had rice cereal 3 times and really seems to have the hang of it! Here are a couple of pictures from the first and second time, and a 5 minute video (click link to see it on YouTube) of her first time.
